Qtum (QTUM) is a cryptocurrency created in March 2017 with a crowdsale raising $15.6 million in less than five days. The token is used on an open-sourced value transfer platform called the Qtum Blockchain, which is a hybrid of Bitcoin and Ethereum, combining the stable blockchain of Bitcoin and the Ethereum smart contract platform.
Qtum is built from Bitcoin’s code and modified to work with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) where Proof-of-Work was replaced with the Proof-of-Stake consensus mechanism, making it the first Proof-of-Stake blockchain network. Qtum as quantum computing is committed to bringing blockchain technology to finance, gaming, the Internet of Things, etc. by creating a global open-source community for the developers and masses. Decentralization is one of its core characteristics and providing a familiar foundation with a robust environment makes for easier Dapp development.
